Description
"Black Circle" is a script I wrote: Cassandra, a young Metis university student, is saved from a mythological dragon and certain death, when she accepts the dominant of two existing realities Cassandra (Cass) Barnsward, living on the periphery of a northern reserve, has a violent argument with her overprotective mother, Viviane, who tries to keep Cass from going to university in the city. In defiance of her mother's wishes, Cass fights her way out and goes to the city, which results in Viviane treating Cass as if she were dead. In the city, Cass rents a suite in three-story building that has Candy, an intriguing prostitute, and Brigit, an eccentric retired Greek mythology professor, renting other suites in the building. Out of loneliness, Cass becomes especially close to Brigit. Tragically Cass's life takes a turn after she witnesses Brigit's death, which involves Brigit purging demons (vices) and angels (virtues) from her soul as she dies. In this way, Brigit frees her soul to enter the Garden of the Hesperides, a pre-biblical paradise, which is protected by Ladon, a 100 headed dragon. In Brigit's final moments, she purges Jesus from her soul; a sight that leaves Cass blind. Cass's exposure to this exorcism gives her knowledge of a forbidden alternative reality, which puts her at Ladon's mercy. Desirous of keeping this sacred knowledge secret, it stalks Cass. Running blindly away from it, Cass runs into the street and is hit by a drunk driver, who drags her from the road and leaves her to die. In the city hospital, Cass is transferred to the psychiatric ward, where Alice, a psychologist begins working with her. After hearing Cass's story, Alice convinces Cass that she has had a psychotic break from reality, which results in Cass rejecting her own experience, as well as the knowledge she has gained from it. The loss of her reality and her sight, which has been diagnosed as permanent, result in her attempted suicide. Cass's denial of her own experience and the forbidden knowledge integral to this experience, allows Ladon to restore her sight, since her denial obscures her knowledge of the forbidden realm. As Cass’s bandages are being removed, Viviane enters her hospital room. When they are completely removed, her mother comes into focus. Contrary to the doctor's diagnosis, Cass's sight is miraculously restored;’ leaving the psychologist and physician's reality questionable. 25% of proceeds from this sale will be donated to the Metis Local #21 in Ile a La Crosse, Saskatchewan Canada to support Aboriginal Youth Initiatives, and 25% will be donated to a Church in La Loche, Saskatchewan.
