Description
Note to eBay: This listing adheres to all eBay requirements for the listing of items containing vintage ivory parts. The ivory on these pipes is pre-CITES and a copy of the Article 10 Certificate as issued by DEFRA is included at the bottom of this listing. The set of pipes being offered here is ready to ship now! This pipe has been identified as a set of Gillanders of Forfar bagpipes from their combing, design and known history. (The registered name of this company was R. Gillanders & Son although they were commonly known in pipe band parlance as Gillanders of Forfar. This was prior to their becoming Gillanders & McLeod in 1972.) These pipes are known to have been made in the 1960s, are made of African blackwood, and have genuine ivory projecting mounts, ferrules, ringcaps and bushes. These pipes are in good "used" condition for their approx. 50 years of age. Although in original untouched condition from new, and free from any defects, warps or cracks in the blackwood, it is thought these pipes would benefit from a cosmetic refurbishment of the blackwood and a cleaning of the genuine ivory parts. However, this decision is being left to the winning bidder! All in all this is an excellent condition vintage pipe with good condition genuine ivory. The tone of these pipes is exactly what you would expect from a nearly 50 year old set of African blackwood pipes from the workshops of Bob Gillanders of Forfar!) The ivory on these pipes is in excellent condition. However, by nature of full disclosure you should be aware that some purple (?) staining exists on one ferrule and one projecting mount. It is thought this will disappear if the ivory is cleaned. As these pipes are 50 years old, small flaws like this in the ivory are to be expected. These pipes come fitted with a new hide pipe bag and the black velvet pipe bag cover and black silk cords (value £50.00+) as seen in the photos. Should any additional accessories be required these can be supplied at cost. Accessories you may wish to consider are: Ezeedrone/Selbie/Balance Tone/Shepherd synthetic drone reeds - £40.00 New War-Mac polypenco pipe chanter - £80.00New War-Mac African blackwood pipe chanter - £140.00 "Used" 1980 Wm Sinclair African blackwood pipe chanter - £160.00 Should any other specialist accesories, be required, these can be supplied seperately. Should you have any questions regarding these pipes, or pipes in general, please e-mail me! (Being a piper I can answer all questions!) Note 1 - Delivery will be made once payment has cleared. (Payment accepted by UK cheque, by bank draft/Cashier's cheque in all major currencies and by credit card (Visa or Mastercard) through my own merchant account.) Note 2 - The ivory on these pipes does not contravene the CITES legislation regarding post-1986 ivory. A copy of the Article 10 certificate issued by DEFRA for the pipes is below. Note to Bidders: This is one of 4 vintage sets of pipes I currently have listed. Of the other sets, there is one 1960s, full mounted silver Wm. Sinclair & Son set of pipes and, one set of 1950s silver & ivory Peter Henderson pipes and one set of 1980 full ivory (with silver slides) Gillanders & McLeod pipes. Please check my other auctions if you think these pipes might be more to your liking.
