We are Authorized G&L Dealers!Gorgeous Birdseye Maple neck and Bound Body!Deluxe G&L Tweed Case included!FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING!*Photos are of the actual custom guitar in stock in our shop Leo Fender considered G&L Guitars to be his finest achievement, even more so than the other legendary company that still bears his name. G&L guitars are truly exemplary, still hand-built by music loving craftsmen on Fender Ave. in Fullerton, California. They are much more akin to custom crafted classical instruments than to the standard, mass produced bolt neck planks of wood that have become the norm. The relatively small production runs also allow for considerably more custom options and features than would normally be available. When Leo Fender created G&L he did so with a dedication to quality and innovation above all. He believed strongly that he could build the finest quality instruments available with revolutionary features that would benefit musicians. G&L makes perhaps the finest handcrafted electric guitars in production today. G&L was Leo Fender's last company, and his legacy of innovation and uncompromising quality is readily apparent in each instrument birthed at the factory on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California. Each of our G&L guitars are special ordered from the factory and are unique, one-off custom instruments made to ProGuitarShop specifications. You will not find a custom made guitar like this anywhere in the world for this price. G&L Comanche Redburst The G&L Comanche is one of Leo Fender's most forward-thinking guitar designs, while at the same time retaining all the features that made his original creations so classic. Deluxe features are found throughout this splendid instrument, including a Bird's Eye Maple neck with hand rubbed Gun Oil Finish, Rosewood fretboard, matching painted headstock, Schaller Locking Tuners, G&L's Dual Fulcrum Vibrato, and a PTB (Passive Treble Bass) tone circuit for dialing in a bass and treble boost. This guitar will also come with a Deluxe G&L Tweed Case. Innovative Features of the G&L Comanche The G&L Comanche comes standard with the G&L Magnetic Field Design Z3 3-pickup configuration with five-way switching, for sweet vintage timbral qualities. There is also a mini-toggle switch enabling further pickup combinations of neck and bridge, or enabling use of all three pickups together. The G&L MFD Z3 pickups are hum-canceling and feature fully adjustable individual pole pieces. G&L's PTB circuitry is also included on the Comanche. This passive boosting system asserts itself in the form of an extra tone knob, which can color the tone with extra bass and treble frequencies. With this knob set on 1, a standard vintage Strat tone is achieved, while rolling it up progressively increases the boost. This can be enormously useful for adding punch and meat to power chords, or giving yourself more juice for solo spots. The PTB system sounds really great and offers enormously useful tones throughout its range, with an increase in tight, thumping bass and sparkling high-end as you crank the knob up. In the context of the Comanche this circuitry can take you from classic Strat tones to warm jazz box sounds with the roll of a knob. The G&L Comanche also features the G&L Dual Fulcrum Vibrato bridge. This patented Leo Fender design uses two pivot points instead of the six screws that would normally affix a vintage style tremolo system. Leo designed this vibrato as an improvement upon his previous designs. The Dual Fulcrum bridge allows the player to bend notes both up and down, as well as imparting a smooth, controlled feel to the action of the vibrato. Unlike the many copycat designs now available, Leo's G&L trem system is constructed with a hardened steel plate that pivots on steel bolts. These hardened, cold-rolled steel bolts are installed in massively dense brass inserts that are then solidly anchored to the guitar. The silky feel of this vibrato design is achieved partially via a precision-machined aluminum trem arm. This arm makes use of a single locking Allen screw that presses a nylon insert. This allows for speedy removal and a controlled, responsive feel, while also letting the player adjust the resistance of the trem arm to suit their personal playing style. In addition, the chrome plated brass saddles have been optimized to allow for precise intonation, as well as working to prevent possible string breakage. A more recent G&L innovation is the Non-Compression Truss Rod design. This newest non-compression design incorporates a dual rod setup that is vastly superior to older single-rod design. It makes use of a second rod which bows away from primary rod. Unlike a vintage truss rod configuration, this design does not compress the neck longitudinally to do its job. Neck compression is undesirable because it often distorts the curve of the fretboard. The Non-Compression design's operation is both fluid and accurate with regard to the articulation of the neck, the "relief" being very consistent across the length of the neck. The latest construction method uses a one piece neck blank with the truss rod installed underneath the fingerboard. In the case of an all-maple neck, a layer of the maple neck blank is sliced off and this slice becomes the fingerboard, ensuring the consistent appearance of a solid, one-piece maple neck. The glue joint in this case is actually stronger than the wood, so the overall stability and resilience of the neck is increased substantially as well.G&L Comanche Specifications Other unique features of this custom G&L Comanche are Redburst finish over bound flame Maple top with matching finished headstock, Natural Wood top binding, Bird's Eye Maple neck with hand-rubbed Gun-Oil finish, Rosewood fretboard, black knobs and pickup covers, and Schaller Locking Chrome Tuners. I play blues and jazz and this guitar is so dynamic it blows me away everytime I pick it up. I find no need for effects playing through a Fender tweed amp. Give it a little extra volume and it can growl. Pull back a little and she just purrs. I am amazed at how long and clear a note will sing. I have to use that word because thats what its like. Its like she singing." Overall Rating : 10 "I've been playing for 30+ years now. After owning Gibsons, Fenders, PRSs, Reverends, Parkers, and several other brands I've culled my "collection" down to this, a Hamer Artist, and an American Standard strat. I have to say that this guitar is the first instrument I've ever played that's made everything before it seem like a toy. Not even my first pro instrument, a '69 SG Special, was this solid and satisfying. I think the PTB system, although daunting at first, is terrific. Words of caution: although I've mentioned a few benchmark tones here, the Comanche is really a different kind of guitar. It's bigger, more intense, and feels different from anything else that I've ever played. A lot of people just don't quite know what to make of them, so take your time and get comfortable before giving up. I hope to get another soon.
