Description
This is a very reluctant sale.A car crash twelve years ago landed me with increasing problems with my lower neck and this banjo is, unfortunately, too heavy for me now. It is a very fine instrument indeed. To tell the truth I really don't think I need to say much about it as I'm sure the person who is going to buy this knows exact what he, or she, is doing. It is Geoff Stelling's #967, a Whitestar, made from maple in 1979. The fingerboard is Ebanol and the rim is the original maple block. The head is a Reno Renaissance and the bridge a 2.35g, 11/16, Old Wood Kat Eyz. The banjo is beautifully set up and the head well settled in (put on about a year ago). There is some fret wear and I suspect that one or two frets will need to be replaced in the next couple of years. I have replaced the original Ivoroid tuner buttons with black ebony ones as I think they really suit the classic simplicity of the neck's styling but I still have the originals and will include them. Of course it is impossible to describe the sound of this banjo in words, the range of tone from the crisp attack while picking near the bridge to the rich sweetness nearer the fingerboard is just astonishing. It is the banjo equivalent of a Steinway grand piano, as soon as you start playing it you find your fingers doing things they've never done before. It comes in its original hard case (plush lined in orange). The case is in good condition (functionally excellent, cosmetically average) and has certainly done a good job in keeping the banjo nice. The banjo has a couple of minor wear marks which are visible if you get about twelve inches away from them and the hooks show some oxidation but it all fits beautifully into a rich glow of classic quality. I have put this instrument at a very reasonable reserve and hope that it finds the home it so richly deserves. Whoever gets this will be getting a great banjo which will increase in value. If you have any complaint about this banjo after buying it just send it back and I will refund your purchase price (minus costs). Thank you for your interest. (Please put a bid on before I change my mind). I will be happy to answer any questions you may have but I will be away for most of the next week so please be patient if there is a delay in responding. I will ship this instrument anywhere. I'm afraid I haven't had time to get to the Post Office to check but I will cap the postage to the UK at £30 by Parcelforce 48, International carriage will be by your choice of carrier and at cost (the form demanded a figure so I put £60, but the actual sum will be the final cost). On 30-Jun-08 at 18:49:47 BST, seller added the following information:Hmm, I seem to have caused confusion with the International Shipping charges. My apologies, I haven't sold anything here for a while. The £60 for International Shipping is NOT correct. The real charge will be the ACTUAL COST and the carrier will be mutually agreed.Thank you.
