ITEM OVERVIEW VINTAGE EARLY 1960'S VOX JMI AC-10 TWIN GUITAR AMPLIFIER If you are looking at this, you probably know how rare these amps are!The JMI Vox AC-10 10 watt amplifier is a piece of British amplification history. Although a specific dating of this amp is difficult, we know it can have been made no later than 1963, due to the use of the smooth tolex covering. This amp is in full working order, with that beautiful, unsurpassed Vox sound. The amp has many of it's original features in place, including: Original Blue Elac Speakers Original Pre amp tubes Original Brass vents and handle Original Grill Cloth and smooth Tolex (slight tear in Grill cloth) Original Control knobs, inputs and input surroundsThe amp has two channels, each with two inputs. "Normal" channel has Volume and Tone controls, "Vibrato" Channel has the same plus speed and amplitude control. The Vibrato is switched via the original footswitch. There has been some work on this amp before we received it, notably the replacement of the mains transformer in 2002, which has not been connected to the voltage selector, meaning the amp is set at 245 Volts. Please note: Buyers outside of the UK would need to use a Step Up transformer in order to use this amp (these transformers are readily available and inexpensive with many aficionados choosing to use one, to preserve the original tone!). The on/off toggle switch also appears to be a replacement, and the original Vox logo is missing. Internal fuses have also been added for extra protection. The lower back panel is a replacement. Our Vox expert has given it a service, detailed below: Replaced 2 x 220K matched resistors in power stage (adds a little volume) Replaced 2 x 22uF electrolytic caps Replaced the dual can 8uF/8uF with 2 seperate brand new 8uF caps Swapped one knob for an original one from a 60’s ac30 Evened out the volumes between the 2 channels Rewired the speakers-they were out of phase Checked the earthing/tightened all bolts/cleaned pots and valve bases. This small low wattage amp just swims with warm valve tone and vintage nostalgia. The Vibrato is deep and colourful, without being noisy and intrusive, and the normal channel is resonant and strong. A perfect addition for any studio set up, or as a low wattage, high quality practice amp.We are based in Manchester in the UK. We have experience in shipping abroad.
